Submit an Abstract


  • Please see the Guidelines for submission below before submitting an abstract
  • Deadline for all submissions: 5th February 2017.
  • In order to present at the conference you must be registered.
  • All accepted posters are part of the official program. Two timeslots are reserved for guided poster sessions.
  • We also offer the opportunity to record a short presentation on site for publication on our EAPM2017 video channel.

Symposia

A symposium consists of four presentations, all of which have to be submitted individually as abstracts for oral presentations.

When you upload your abstract you will be prompted to indicate whether your abstract is part of a symposium. Tick the box and specify the name of the symposium.

As part of the same process, the chair of the symposium should notify the conference organiser of the symposium by e-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. attaching the symposium submission template.

NOTE: For a symposium to be eligible:

  • there must be four individually submitted abstracts
  • all four abstracts have individually to be approved by peer review
  • the EAPM scientific committee must approve of the symposium as a whole.
  • all contributors must have registered for the conference.

Guidelines for submissions

General information

Submissions are invited on:

  • Empirical research (quantitative and qualitative)
  • Reviews and meta-analyses
  • Practice guidelines
  • Case studies: Posters including a short overview on the existing literature are preferred
  • Models of care
  • Trainee papers are welcome and will be specially marked. They will be subject to review for the Trainee Poster Award.
All submissions are subject to peer review by members of the scientific committee.

Publication in the Journal of Psychosomatic Research

Abstracts meeting the requirements of the Journal will be published in the Journal of Psychosomatic Research (JPR).
For publication in the JPR the following is required:

  • Abstracts should describe innovative research
  • Abstracts on empirical research should contain the most important date in the results section
  • Abstracts should be written in impeccable English
Format

All abstracts should be structured according to the following format:

  • Title of abstract
  • Names and institutions of all authors
  • E-mail address of the first/corresponding author.
  • Aims, methods, results, and conclusions.
  • No longer than 2500 characters including punctuation and spaces.

Aims

State the primary objectives of the study, including the main research questions, aims or theory being tested.

Method

Quantitative studies: Include design, participants (including number of participants), measures.
Qualitative studies: Include design, participants, methods of data collection and analysis, e.g. grounded theory, discourse analysis, and IPA.

Results

Quantitative studies: Include a summary of the results.
Qualitative studies: Include a description of the main findings such as the themes or categories generated.
Note: it is not acceptable to state, “Results will be discussed”.

Conclusions

Some discussion of the possible contribution to, or implications for, health psychology.
Please do NOT include a list of references at the end of your abstract.

Poster presentation guidelines

In order to communicate effectively the results of your research, please follow the following guidelines to ensure that posters are similar size, and format. This will assist participants accessing and appreciating your poster.

Format

Your poster should be in PORTRAIT format and the dimensions of your poster should not exceed 90 cm (horizontal) x 130 cm (vertical).

Contents

Structure your poster according to: aims, methods, results, and conclusions as outlined in the Format section above.
In the heading, list the title of the paper, authors, institution and its location.
Include your conflict of interest statement in your poster.

Location

Your poster will be displayed in the poster viewing area in the exhibition area.

The board of your poster will be numbered, which will be the same as your poster/presentation code, which you will receive ahead of the conference. This number will also be present in the final programme booklet for cross-reference. Viewers will find your poster according to the title of your submitted abstract and number as stated in the final programme booklet.

Poster mounting and dismounting

You can put up your poster at a specified time (TBA) on the day of your scheduled poster session. Material for mounting the poster will be provided on site. Please remove the poster after your session to make space for the next session. Any posters remaining after the congress may be disposed of.

Oral presentation guidelines

Parallel sessions are 90 min long and accommodate 4 presentations. Presentations must not exceed 15 min to allow 5 min of discussion after the presentation. Please keep your time.

You will receive information on where and when your presentation takes place ahead of the conference via e-mail. You will find this information also in the final programme booklet for cross-reference.

All lecture halls are equipped with a presentation projector, PC with Windows 7 and Power Point. Speakers are kindly requested to test their presentation in the speakers lounge.

Come to the session room in good time prior to the beginning of your session and load your talk onto the conference laptop.

When using videos, make sure to use standard modern video formats suitable for Windows 7 (test in advance). Save the videos used in your presentation on your USB memory stick.

In the large session rooms there will be dedicated technicians assisting.
In the smaller seminar rooms there will be a rotating technician.
